Importing blog posts is taking super long

I am trying to upload an old wordpress blogs posts into a new wordpress blog. I’ve exported the old posts via the Tools > Export tool and selected all content.

I am now on the new site and trying to import the .xml file which is 3.16MB. It’s just been spinning for about 4 hours now.

Should it typically take this long? I’ve seen posts about merging blogs from wordpress.com taking up to 24 hours but both the old and new site are self-hosted not wordpress.com

Actually it just seems to have timed out. Any ideas? Thanks,
