• Maybe I am missing something obvious, but I can’t see how to import blocks from another site.

    Can anyone help?

  • 2 things. First, the page you need help with is unable to be opened by my browser “Safari” at the server level.
Second,I am scratching my head as how would WordPress know the technical data of a block (if there was one) on another site? Therefore, only the blocks in the + (inserter) are available. Many of these blocks extract formatted data from selected sites and are written specifically for WordPress.
Hope this makes sense. User only forum remember, not developer.

There are several “pattern builder” or “pattern creator” plugins (not sure what the policy is on linking to them in the forums is). Essentially, you could copy the entire set of blocks from the editor on one site. Then, use one of those builder/creator plugins to save that pattern for reuse on other sites.

Thank you for the info Justin. Maybe you could set me straight on something. I get the idea of the 3 templates. I think I get the idea of blocks in a template. But what I’m confused about is a pattern. Is it the setup of a number of blocks, or something you put into a block or what? The + inserter has both blocks and patterns; obviously I’m clueless about their relationship to each other. Your comments please.
Am beginning to wonder if WordPress itself is one big block or a pattern or both. Feel like Alice in Wonderland.

Patterns are just a predefined set of one or more blocks. Some people might think of them as design “layouts” or “sections” that someone has already put together. Users can insert them into a post and customize them.

A good way of thinking about patterns is to think of them as starting points for more complex designs than just inserting a single block alone. Patterns can be as simple as a three-column Gallery block or as complex as a full front-page design.

Thank you Justin for your explanation. Now I get it!
