Importing an Excel cell with a formatted date into TablePress

    Hello there,

    Am importing a table from Excel into TablePress. One of the fields is “date”. It’s formatted in Excel to look like DD/MM/YYYY but when it arrives within Tablepress it looks like “42752” etc.

    Seems there’s no way to format the field through CSS (?) – so how else would I do this?

    I tried exporting to CSV, but the date format is the same (e.g. 42752), UNLESS I format things within Excel so that the dates are “text” – which then causes all kinds of other problems.

    Is there a simple solution to this?

    Hi Paul,

    thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

    Directly importing this as an Excel file will not work, as TablePress can indeed not read the correct format.

    However, saving to a CSV file should work here, as that saves the content to the CSV file in the same way as it’s shown, at least in all my tests.
    Could you please try again with the CSV format?

    I am looking at an existing installation of TablePress. For some reason, the dates in tablePress are formatted as dd-MM-yy, as in “20-Apr-14”. Is that format required or can the date be in any format I choose? And can I mix date formats? For example, can some rows be in “dd-MM-yy” and others in “mm/dd/yyyy”?

    Hi,

    TablePress does not set or require any date formats. For TablePress, it’s all text.

    You can have any date format that you like, and even mix them. It might just not be possible to directly use the JavaScript sorting (by the user) then.
