    Hi,
I have an old blog i would like to import in my (first) brand new wp network.
Must I copy my images and uploaded files in
    /www/myNetwork.com/wp-content/upload
    or in
    /www/myNetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3 ?
(this site’s index is 3 it seems)

NB : I use domain mapping and my host has an integrated CDN that works only with the files which url is based on the main domain myNetwork.com.
If I put my uploaded files in /www/myNetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3 … will the url of these files be seen as main domain based or do I take the risk that some replace rules make it look like sub-domain based ? (I would loose the CDN)

I hope my question is clear for you (i am not sure it is for me <:o) )
    Thanks

If you’re MANUALLY moving the images, they go to wp-content/uploads/sites/3 where 3 is the number of the new site.

If you’re using the WP export/import tools, it takes care of it for you.

    Hi Mika,
Thanks for your help once again.

If you’re using the WP export/import tools, it takes care of it for you.

Really ? The standard import in Tools does this ?
Does it automatically scan the xml file for uploaded files urls and then downloads the files from the site being imported and then copy them to the right folder ?

Yes, the Import Tool automatically (tries to) imports images :

Yes. That’s exactly what it does and has always done ?? The images need to be attached to the post for it to work properly.

    Thanks Mika,

The images need to be attached to the post for it to work properly.

I often type my img html tags in posts without using the “add media” tool which means that my images are not attached to the post. (bad practice ?)
So I understand that they will be ignored by the import tool. Too bad …

    bad practice ?

Yes that’s bad. By doing it your way, and not adding the media to the posts, there’s absolutely no way for WP to know that it can do things with the posts. You’re missing a lot of cool WP features that way.

You’ll have to manually copy the files up :/

    Punishment due.
I’ll try to get rid of my bad habits,
    Thanks Mika.
