• Trying to export from old WP installation to a new one fails. The categories and fields aren’t exported anyway so have to be laboriously re-entered. But even after doing that and massaging the CSV for four hours, I cannot make it work. For example, headers are exported as company-name but have to be imported as company_name; life is too short for such sloppy coding.

    Hi Macnetwork,

I’m really sorry you ran into issues here. This sounds like a support issue that we’d be happy to help you resolve. I really wish you had contacted us first as we always check the forums frequently and would respond quickly to help something like this.

Importing from another install of BD requires that you have ALL of the fields set in the exact same naming convention, and it sounds like there may be some minor discrepancy (“contact-name” vs. “contact_name”) which isn’t a bug, but rather a configuration issue.

We have a migration plugin that handles this in a much better way. I’d be more than happy to help you get it and give you the instructions on how to use it. The migration plugin moves more than just listings–it gets you the settings, categories, regions, EVERYTHING. It’s much easier to use (but it’s something that is too heavy to add into the core plugin) Contact us here to get it: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/contact/

And in the future, please post support issues in the forum or contact us directly, we’re very responsive and stand behind the product if you’re having some kind of problem.
