    Hi everyone,

The support forum has been blowing up since the v4.x.x. release and I’d like to use this opportunity to clear a few things up. Also, I’d like to give instructions on how to post a support ticket in order to keep the conversation productive so we can get OMGF back to the level you (and I) all expect and want it to be.

Clearly I’ve made some errors of judgement when creating this release. For months, I was getting a lot of questions and remarks about the plugin being too complicated, and I figured a full automatic approach would solve this matter. Clearly not. Many of you appear to like the amount of tweaking OMGF v3.x.x offered. So, I apologize for that.

That being said, as I mentioned in the changelog (which apparently no one reads before upgrading), the detected font list and preload functions are only removed temporarily. They will be re-introduced in a different form, in a later release.

Also, no features were moved from Free to Pro and the assumption that I broke v4.x.x on purpose, to push the Pro version onto everyone is just plain wrong and unfair. I think I, my plugins, and the reputation we’ve built through the years deserve a bit more patience and understanding, instead of yelling and wrongful accusations.

To clarify, if OMGF v3.x.x Free worked for you, and successfully detected/removed your Google Fonts, OMGF v4.x.x Free should still work for you. If it doesn’t, then that’s a bug and you’re more than welcome to post a ticket on this support forum.

To help me debug the issue, please do the following:

    1. Empty OMGF’s cache Directory
    2. Open a new browser tab and presse F12 to open DevTools
    3. In DevTools, open the ‘Network’ tab
    4. In that browser tab, visit the frontend of your site. You should see the ‘Network’ tab get populated with requests.
    5. In there, search for a request to OMGF’s Download API, which’ll look like this: https://yourdomain.com/wp-json/omgf/v1/download/css?a-bunch-of-parameters
    6. Copy the part after the question mark (?) and share it in your ticket.

That’ll give me some more information to go on, and to pinpoint the bug (if any.)

Lastly, if you don’t like v4.x.x for whatever reason and you don’t want to upgrade (yet): no one is forcing you!

If you already upgraded, and you’d like to rollback, the latest v3.x.x release is openly available on Github and installing it isn’t hard at all:

    1. Download the .zip-file to your computer and unpack it
    2. Rename the folder to host-webfonts-local
    3. Compress that folder into a .zip-file
    4. Go to your WordPress environment and go to Plugins > Add New
    5. At the top of the screen, click Add Plugin and click on Browse
    6. Upload the zip file you just created
    7. WordPress 5.5.x will prompt you to replace the existing version of OMGF with the currently uploaded version. Click Replace With Current.

And that’s it. You’re now running OMGF v3.x.x again.

If you have any suggestions to improve OMGF v4’s User Experience, feel free to share them with me. Any feedback is welcome. I care about my plugins and the WordPress community using them.

    Thanks for your time.

    – Daan
