Good tip, if only could be possible to selectively reame files: what your plugin allows me to do is only to batch rename files.
There is nothing available in the image edit page, or even in the media library page.

I completely agree with you. Unfortunately the WordPress API at this point doesn’t give you the ability to easily do that easily (it requires some more programming). It’s on my to-do list though so it will be available eventually (I need it was well :p).

Actually you can rename files one by one, using the Media Manager. Just change the title and update ?? The file will be renamed.

I had to remove your plugin: it messed up with all my media.
Probably is some incompatibility with WPML, I don’t know, but I don’t want to waste more hours trying to recover again 500+ images just to check where the issue is.

I use WPML as well, the plugin is compatible with it. What do you mean by “messed-up”?

Not sure what actually happened, but right after having installed your plugin, each time I save a post type that is set as translatable (either post, page or custom post type), that has a featured image, this image gets lost, even if I try to re-add that image, it just doesn’t get saved (the _thumbnail_id record gets deleted if present, or is not added at all).

This doesn’t happen with non translatable content.

And I believe the issue is in the database, as even after having uninstalled your plugin, the issue persists.
But again, it started right after having installed your plugin.

Now I’m in touch with WPML to get this sorted out, but I’m 90% sure that your plugin is the cause: it can’t be just a coincidence.

What I know is that until this is not sorted out, the only way to add a featured image is tu manually create the record in the *_postmeta table: not very handy.

That’s indeed not very handy at all. I use WPML and my plugin of course, but never experienced such an issue. But obviously, as the plugin modified the file-name of the images, it can break links if anything goes wrong, or if another plugin does “something” in the middle of the process.

My posts and pages are all translatable as well.

Would you mind installing a simple WordPress with WPML and try to see if you have the issue with it? If there is one, I will definitely work on it right away.

Upgraded Media File Renamer to version 0.9.2
the following fatal error is triggered during activation:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘else’ (T_ELSE) in /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/media-file-renamer/media-file-renamer.php on line 254

Note that the Installer plug-in (by On the go systems) was upgraded as well to version 0.4.3.4 so there could be a connection between these 2 plug ins.

Very weird issue Jose, I checked but there is no error at that line, and I would have seen it before. Do you use the last version of WP? Is the plugin still disabled?

Sorry for the late reply. Our WP remains on version 3.5.

We have a relatively new web site so the web developer was able to help us fix the broken links. The plugin was uninstalled as part of troubleshooting.

Hi Jose, the plugin was refreshed. Many fixes and improvements. Almost like a brand new plugin ??
