Can't import XML file

I was switching webhosts. I did an export from WordPress and it created an XML of about 29mgs. After installing WordPress and switching nameservers I go to import the file. I go to Tools > Import and select the WordPress method. It opens a menu that is asking me to choose an WXR file. ANd it has a limit of 8MB. I don’t have a file of that type and the file I have is much larger than 8MG. I tried just selecting my XML file but it doesn’t work. So basically I have a file that WordPress exported that it won’t import. What are my options? I don’t have access to the old server now to do mySQL dump.
