    Hello! Thanks for this wonderful plugin.

    I already have a custom tab on many products “More info”. Now, I need to import a new custom tab for all products “Manuals”.

    If I WPAI import “Manuals” and update the yikes_woo_products_tabs, I worry that I would overwrite/delete my “More info” tab.

    Is this correct and can I make an WPAI import that keeps existing tabs and only adds new tabs?

  • Hey @prokops,

    If you’re worried you should check in a staging environment first. If your host doesn’t provide you with one you can use this plugin to create one.

    This is the only sure fire way to make sure your data won’t be destroyed. Also, you should create a backup of your site before doing this because then you will have yet another backup plan if things go wrong.

    OK so I tested it and if I choose to import and update the custom field: yikes_woo_products_tabs, then my custom tab 1 is replaced by the one I am importing next.

    My question is therefore: can I update my products by importing only one specific custom tab, without overwriting whatever tabs I already have on my products?

    Cheers

    The approach you’re describing and the functionality make sense, you’re replacing a post’s meta field with a new value so the old value is erased. Have you tried exporting your products first and then adding data which can then be reimported with all the data?

    I’m not sure I understand your workflow, are these completely new products that need to have multiple tabs?

    So I have imported a couple thousand products, all with custom tab A.
    After a few months of adding content to custom tab A, I now have the need to import thousands of custom tab B.

    How would I do that? The data in the db is serialized so it is not easy to do.
    I was hoping that this plugin “Custom Product Tabs for WooCommerce WP All Import Add-on” could have some tools to import into already existing tab sets OR import into a specific tab without overwriting existing content.

    Can the plugin author comment on this? ??

    My alternative would be to export the serialized data and make a excel macro that combines all the data, but I hope there is an easier way.

    Cheers

    Is there no help to be had on this issue? Is it impossible to import a set of tabs without wiping existing content?

    @prokops

    Unfortunately, that type of workflow is outside the scope of support here because its very difficult to do what you’re describing without causing corruption of data.

    I just wouldn’t feel good about offering a solution because I know it could end up with your hard work being erased.

    However, there is a tool that on of our users develop that converts imports in this type of mannner: https://wt.sosidee.com/

    OK :/ .. is there a way of exporting individual tabs without having to export yikes_woo_products_tabs? Is there a WP ALL EXPORT itnegration or similar?

    @prokops,

    No, I’m sorry there is not way to export individual tabs. Your best bet is to create a new “Saved Tab” when you want to add one to new products and then apply that to the products after they’ve been imported.
