Import overwriting my edits

    I ran the importer yesterday for my 178 Etsy listings and that worked great. However it obviously pulls in the long Etsy titles as they are on Etsy for SEO purposes but they look crazy on my website. I edited them to be way shorter as well as reduced the number of categories as I’m using them as a filter (I’ve added the custom post types to a visual composer custom post grid to show on my shop page). I’ve also deleted a lot of the products it imported as I don’t want to show them on my site.

    Overnight my product posts have been overwritten with the original titles and categories and the deleted products have returned. I guess the importer was still running in the background. How often does it run after the first import has completed? Will it always overwrite rather than just add new?

    Can I choose which products to import when it runs or will I always have this issue?

    If I disable the importer so no new products get added (I guess by removing the API key) will I loose the already imported data?

    Additional info – looking through my products section I can see that it has actually added duplicate listings for those that I had edited. And many of the posts are set as drafts. I’m pretty confused about what it’s done!

    Some notes I wanted to bring up regarding the import process.

    The plugin should be potentially setting inactive posts to draft. Inactive posts would be items that are no longer in the shop. Instead of outright deleting, it can just unpublish them.

    It tries to match by product title. The changing of the titles in WP made things mismatch in your case, and thus the plugin viewed intended matching products as different ones.

    The plugin does run on a schedule, and will try to keep things in sync itself, without user interaction. It has a daily schedule, so every 24 hours.

    No built in options that I can recall regarding selective import.

    Just removing the API key credentials should prevent successful re-fetching/updating, but you won’t lose already-imported data which will be stored in the database.

    Hi – thanks for the speedy reply and thanks for the review of how the import works, it did become a bit clearer as I went back to edit the posts just now so what you explained makes sense. I think the best thing for me to do is to remove the API key so it can’t go looking to run more imports and then I can manually add new products as I when I list them on Etsy.
