• Greetings all,
I have a friend who currently has her blog hosted on Typepad’s pay service. For obvious reasons, I would like to help her move her site over to a hosted/Wordpress config. Is there any way to export from Typepad and import into WordPress? Will Typepad even allow an export of archives?(I certainly hope so…)
I’ve heard that Typepad uses a modified version of Movable Type, so will the WordPress MT import work?

  • Yes, it is slick as a whistle. Export from TP and follow the excellent instructions in the codex. ONE caveat. DO NOT think you can call your exported file anything other than “import.txt”. Don’t get fancy. It won’t work.

    Yippee!!!!

I’m about to move from TypePad to WordPress so I appreciate all these comments and suggestions. TypePad has told me there is no way for them to redirect hits to my posts to my new location (which I haven’t chosen yet) so I guess I’m going to lose all those hits I’ve been getting from Google.

But at least if I can save the content which is 1400 posts, that will be helpful and WordPress will give me more control over the blog in the future.

I find the Codex directions confusing. Please explain how the import-mt.php file can be edited when one cannot find the line that needs to be changed.
