I am SO glad that I have finally had the time to start working with your plugin. It does everything, does it really well, and has your awesome support.

I see that photos can be bulk imported from directories – which is very handy. Do you see any gallery specific import tools in the future for WPPA? I have a NextGen gallery with about 1700+ images with titles and descriptions I would like to import to WPPA. After that, I could do away with NextGen entirely (otherwise, I’ll need to keep it around for those legacy photo galleries).

No i have no conversion tool. I am so busy with wppa+ that i have no time to dig into the internals of nextgen. Only 1700? ( that is supposed to be a joke, but i am currently working on the plugin to make it suitable for systems of up to 25000, s..o ).

I would be interested to know if WPPA+ is able to convert the nextgen galleries. I have many posts that use nextgen, a conversion tool will be so cool. Nextgen is giving lots of problem recently, many fixes have been made, but not fixing most problems.

Now it is 3 month later as my previous post here, and i can tell you that i created a conversion method ( introduced at wppa+ version 5.1.0 ).

You can – almost automaticly – convert ngg galleries into wppa+ albums. If you have ngg backup files, you can use them if you like. Nothing will be removed from ngg, and both systems can be on-line at the same time, so you can take your time and convert step by step.

This means that you do not need to re-upload your photos, you can import them using the Photo Albums -> Import admin screen.

Once you have some experience with wppa+ you will have to manually modify the posts/pages to contain the wppa+ shortcodes if you want to get rid of ngg completely eventually.

I seem to be missing a step. I’ve uploaded zip files via FTP and extracted them on the import photos page, but now what? It says the zip files have been extracted successfully but I don’t know where they went or how to put them into a specific album. I don’t see them on the moderate photos page either.

Set the ‘Import photos from: ‘ selection box to — My depot — on th Impot photos screen. Then you will find them there.

right, I’ve set the ‘import photos from’ box to the correct folder on my server, it unzips the files contained inside but where do the photos go after that?

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

The location is ../wp-content/wppa-depot/admin/ if you are admin, if your login name is sean it is in ../wp-content/wppa-depot/sean/

Set the ‘Import photos from: ‘ selection box to — My depot — on the Impot photos screen. That is ../wp-content/wppa-depot/[login-name]/, the same location you uploaded the zipfile to.

If the zip contained non-image files, they will be removed for security reasons.

I really appreciate your diligence and maybe I’m just not understanding or phrasing my question properly, but I still don’t understand.

After the plugin successfully unzips the folder, where do the photos go and how do I assign them to an existing album?

If you upload a zipfile, it goes into your depot directory: ../wp-content/wppa-depot/admin/ if you are admin, if your login name is sean it is in ../wp-content/wppa-depot/sean/

If you press the Import button, the zip is unzipped.
After unzipping, the photos appear on the import screen, so the second time you press the import button you will import the photos into an album ( what you must select first on the import screen.)

If your zipfile contained only photos, you will see the directly on the import screen, along with chackboxes to select them.

If your zipfile contained a folder with images, you will see the folder on the import screen. You can import the folder directly so it becomes an album with the same name, containing all the photos in the folder. You can also navigate into the folder using the Set source directory selection box and button. Then you can select photos and import them into different albums.

OK! Now we’re getting somewhere. I found the directory exactly where you said it would be, but then i tried clicking the set source directory button – THEN the photos appeared and I could import them into the album.

Thank you so much for your patience and hard work developing this plugin!
