Hi friends, I’m trying to use Jetpack to migrate a site for someone else from Pantheon.io to WordPress.com using Jetpack. I had a heck of a time setting things up through Pantheon and worked through the connection troubleshooting guide and finally got Jetpack to register a connection with the site on Pantheon.

However, when I start the import on WordPress.com, it starts the backup process, gets about 1/3 of the way through the progress bar, and then gives me an Import Failed message and tells me to contact WordPress.com support with no additional details.

I contacted WordPress.com support and they told me that the connection to Jetpack had failed and to go through the guide that I went through previously to figure out the connection issues or contact Jetpack Support directly. I checked the source site and sure enough, my connection to Jetpack was disconnected yet again. I disconnect and reconnect, verify that I’m connected via site health tools, try the import again, it fails, and then the source site shows as disconnected yet again.

I went to contact Jetpack Support but saw that they only do direct support for people with paid products, so I was directed here.

    1. Do I need a paid plan to do a site migration? That wasn’t indicated in the documentation that I read but I might have missed that.
    2. Where can I get more details on what is failing? I’m feeling rather stuck right now and I need to get this migration done ASAP.

Here’s the message that my client is getting by email:

So, I was able to do some more digging and troubleshooting and I think it’s the Nginx configuration of my host that’s causing an issue. I have a support ticket open with them but I don’t know if there’s any easier workaround for this.

The error that I’m seeing in the Nginx logs is:

    2022/01/14 22:11:03 [error] 10#0: *3628 access forbidden by rule, client: 10.1.64.43, server: , request: "POST /xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack&token=SfSTo%24EN0EpUfz2Eh%281%23lbGfsQQaf%25kV%3A1%3A0&timestamp=1642198262&nonce=ipIwuQfvPm&body-hash=mRSa%2BfnlLYg9q3Nqk%2BKEcBzZ2eQ%3D&signature=zveRJYo2KmTnc96xveRO2II3glo%3D HTTP/1.1", host: "www.disappearingman.com", referrer: "https://www.disappearingman.com/xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack&token=SfSTo%24EN0EpUfz2Eh%281%23lbGfsQQaf%25kV%3A1%3A0&timestamp=1642198262&nonce=ipIwuQfvPm&body-hash=mRSa%2BfnlLYg9q3Nqk%2BKEcBzZ2eQ%3D&signature=zveRJYo2KmTnc96xveRO2II3glo%3D"

    Hi @noxpointe,

Thanks for reaching out and for the troubleshooting you did in the meantime. From the error you reported, it seems like this could be a good candidate for being the cause of your issue.

Let us know what the host says to you, and we’ll see if we can take it from there.

Meanwhile, I also noticed that the site you’re migrating to isn’t online at the moment, and this can be another element affecting the Jetpack connection, also.

Let’s take one thing at the time, though. Let us know what your host says about the error you found, and we’ll take it from there if that’s the case.

    Look forward to your reply!
