• Having difficulty importing content. I have built a test Wordress site, exported xml file (5Mg), then tried uploading to new domain. This has failed on IE, Firefox and Opera. Have tried downloading export file and re-upload. In IE I get error message:

    Unable to create directory
    /mounted-storage/home34b/sub001/sc27956-WQEU/website/1/wp-content/uploads/2008/08.
Is its parent directory writable by the server?

What is this parent directory? Can you make any suggestion?
I have spent many hours building site (over 500 pages) so don’t want get held up here. Any other way to upload, without doing it all again??

  • I have the same problem. It exports as xml. But when it’s time to import, it wants a different wordpress format. What can I do? I already close the old blog. This old xml file is all I have…

    temporarily chmod /wp-content to 777
    try upload again
    chmod back to 755

What method do you use to get the information (older posts etc.) from an older version ie 2.5 onto a latest version moving everything over to it?

Is their any steps available to do this?

    thanks.

Okay thanks Samboll. I was able to navigate the sub folders within the uploads folder down to the folder with the current month in this case being 12 (contents>uploads>2008>12)for Dec and temporarily chmod to 777 and tried the import procedure again and it worked.

Just chmod the contents folder did not afford me the import successfully.
    I hope this helps.
Just remember to chmod back to 755 when you are done!
