Import adds a backslash before all apostrophes

I’ve tried this plugin on two sites (2 different exports and 2 different imports). Each time I import into a new site, it adds a backslash before every single apostrophe in the article. Any idea why it’s doing that or how to prevent it?

e.g. “Please, please don’t tell me that’s how we do it?”

becomes: “Please, please don\’t tell me that\’s how we do it?”
