• Greetings
I would like very much to upgrade to 1.5 but I keep hitting a wall. Ia€?m trying to do a fresh install meaning the upgrading option is out. My current 1.2.2 install is barley working so the time has come for a new install. Ia€?m trying an install on a test server by setting up 1.5 then trying to import my posts and categories. Here is where the problems begin. It totally ignores the categories and list all post as a€?Uncategorized.a€? If I try to edit a post I get a nasty error stating a€?WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘menu_order’ in ‘field list’].a€?

Ia€?ve tired various methods of backing up and restoring the database so now Ia€?m out of ideas. My goal is to keep the posts and categories intact.

    Thanks in advance.

  • You don’t need to import your database when moving from 1.2 to 1.5. In your browser, navigate to .../wp-admin/upgrade.php and run that script. It will update your database accordingly.

Daviking, try an upgrade anyways, you’ll wind up replacing all of your WordPress files and the upgrade script will completely change your database. So, whatever was bothering your WordPress installation before, should be gone.

I tried an upgrade initially, but that went poorly. Ia€?ve wanted to relocate my site to a different server anyway and this seems like an ideal time to do it given the new release. So, once again, Ia€?m looking for a way to import my databases rather than upgrade.

Move yur database under your new site, then installa all WP.15 files and run the upgrade.php script to have your database updated. It should works flawless.

If you backup you database using all the option like complete insertion and so on you shouldn’t have any trouble. I often backup my site and the database and i restore DB locally for test purpose without problem

    Follow these instructions: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/backup/

What I did when upgrading was to create a duplicate database and installed a fresh install of 1.5.

I compared the duplicate 1.2 DB and new 1.5 DB table by table looking at the table structure. I added fields to the 1.2 DB tables where needed or reordered them to be in the same order as 1.5.

I then emptied the 1.5 tables and added the 1.2 tables via SQL.

A couple things to remember are to remember to change your blog location settings in the options and to disable all your plugins…

Ah yes, SteveAgl suggestion worked just fine. Although I wish I saw philpeeps’ post about changing the blog URL before I tried it, might have saved me a little time. It’s all working fine now – much thanks.
