Implement FTPES connection

I found this support thread, but it didn’t offer any resolution for using SSL over FTP, and checking the box to enable this feature still breaks it 5 years on.
Is there any known way to use an ftpes (the only secure connection our hosting allows) for backups?
Your plugin is great, and works well without SSL, but it’d be nice to enable this feature.
