I have decided to remove all blog tags from my posts with the intention of organizing all posts by categories alone. Is there any reason to retain these tags or should I delete them all as they are not in use?

I may want to later convert some of these tags into categories at a later date but am not yet certain on this. Will this be an issue if I delete the tags for these posts i.e. it would have a 2 after the name as it would be considered a duplicate, such as /category/marketing-2

I am also concerned about retaining these pages would have bad impact on SEO as Google doesn’t like pages with no function.

I would really appreciate if you could offer any advice.

There is no harm in deleting tags, especially if you’re no longer using them, I’d recommend it.

The /category/marketing-2 issue is probably because you already have /tag/marketing as the two essentially share the same database table. If you were to delete the “marketing” tag, then you’d be able to create a clean “marketing” category without the -2.
