• Hello

I am trying to understand the impact of changing the site URL on SEO and pages indexed by search engines.

I currently have something like https://www.domain.com/blog as WordPress Address and Site Address but would like to move to https://www.domain.com/a

So sections will become wwww.domain.com/a/section1 as opposed to wwww.domain.com/blog/section1

I want to hide from visitors the fact that I am going to be using WordPress as the entire website.

The problem is that I already have several pages indexed by google sending traffic to the site.

If I change the WordPress Address and Site Address, will SEO traffic die due to broken links?

  • Generally when you change site URL, the htaccess file takes care of the redirects by rewriting the URLs. If it correctly does that you need not overly worry about change in URL (or parts of it). And it should not affect your SEO. However, if it really happens, I cannot personally assure you. If it does not, you may need to use some redirect plugins or write new 301 redirect rules.
