• Hello friends

I’m trying to find where the problem lies a huge backup, with more than 118 GB (full backup). Each time I need to generate a full backup it increases, the previous time was in 727 MB, and now jumped to 118 GB.

Note: Whenever down the backup for my PC or Dropbox, I delete the backup in cpanel (home).

Any friend could give me a hint where this error.

I need to change hosting, but with a backup of this size is impossible.

    Thank you

    Aurelio Martuscelli

  • Check in your wp-content folder to see if there are any files there that are that big. The only thing that should be used for storage etc is that folder so it’s likely a plugin may be backing itself up but taking up a lot of room perhaps.

You’ll need to check it via your control panel or via FTP (root/wp-content/) and check each subfolder. WordPress by itself is tiny and wouldn’t normally cause that big of a backup.

If it’s jumping so much, there’s probably error_log files littered around the site that are huge. Look for large files as Daniel said, and you’ll easily find these if they are there. you can delete any file called error_log safely, but it’s worth looking into the errors in it so that the file doesn’t get generated in the first place.

Also, check the size of the mail directory. We’ve got sites here that have got around 60MB of actual website fils, but have 60-70GB of emails stored.

Yes, check the error log file size. If this error happened only in the past few days, it may be related to this issue:

I too had very large log files and the solution above solved everything.

You can also SSH to your server and find a list of all the largest files using instructions from here:
