Imagify Not Optimizing Remaining Images and Stuck

I ran Imagify Optimization several times on my large WordPress website. Keeps getting stuck but optimizes more images each time. Now permanently stuck at 32% of images optimized with 546 media files optimized and 1,171 errors.

Original Filesize 406.38 MB and Optimized Filesize at 138.92 MB. Will not optimize the vast majority of remaining images.

When going to the media library in WP Admin, many images have “The backup directory is not writable” message.

Ran Imagify on my WP addon site and all went well. Images were optimized.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @pbsbluejay

I am sorry to hear about the issue.

We do have a helper plugin that we’ve developed that can sometimes resolve these errors that you can download and install using the following link:

    https://github.com/wp-media/imagify-helpers/raw/master/various/imagify-custom-site-root/imagify-custom-site-root.zip

Once you have this plugin activated, see if the error is resolved when you try to optimize another image.
Sometimes Imagify is not able to find your backup directories, and the helper plugin that I provided above can help it to locate them.

However, if there is still an issue, it’s also possible this could be an issue with the chmod (file/folder permissions) and/or chown (file/folder ownership) settings for the following folder locations:

    [wp-site-root]/wp-content/uploads/
[wp-site-root]/imagify-backup/ (will only exist if you have set “Custom Folders”)

The permissions should be 775 or 755 for folders and 644 for files. If you’ve ensured the permissions are correct, then it may be related to the chown settings. These settings need to be correct so Imagify can write the newly optimized images and backup images to their proper locations on your server.

It may be best to contact host support to see if they can provide insight on why your server is not allowing Imagify to write new files to your backup folders, and to see if they can change your settings to allow it.

Feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,

    Ioanna

I tried the Helper plugin as it was suggested to me about a week ago. Nothing, it didn’t help me find the issue. No errors showed up.

Should I just uninstall Imagify and move on or can this issue be fixed?

I had no issue with Imagify optimizing my images on my smaller addon WP blog with a different theme.

I don’t know why most of my images are showing, “The backup directory is not writable’ and 1,171 Errors.

    Hey @pbsbluejay

That’s strange, you can confirm these two sites are on the same server, with the same PHP version and settings?

Is there any chance to contact your host perhaps?

    Best Regards

Ok… I contacted Hostgator and they appeared to have fixed the issue with Imagify not optimizing the vast majority of images on one of my sites. I optimized one image after another and each image was optimized. I will now try bulk optimization and see what happens.

I was wrong. What Hostgator did was a temporary fix. I could only optimize a few images manually. The bulk optimization failed. Try to optimize one image at a time again and that failed also.

I was told to close this Topic as resolved since other people have the same issue and wait for an update. So that’s what I’ll do.
