• WordPress 6.1.1

Images in the editor are not always shown full size. There is some randomness to this with some images appearing full-size, some half-size and some as tiny icons (see image link below). So far the images appear properly when published.

The above image is supposed to be 800×600.

Sometimes all the images are okay, and sometimes they are all incorrect. Sometimes it happens when I edit an existing post.

    This problem just started yesterday.

  • Hi @moviedebuts is the image you shared in the screenshot still small in the editor?

I wasn’t able to replicate this issue on a test site using the default WordPress theme. This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles. If you can install plugins, install and activate Health Check

It will add some additional features under the menu item under Tools > Site Health. On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off, and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

When I re-edit any page I get the same tiny images.

I’m not capable troubleshooting for you. I have a brain tumor and just struggling to create content.

Besides, the correct way to resolve these problems is for the programmers to go back into the code and figure out how they broke it in the last release. You can’t keep blaming our plugins and themes which have worked fine for years. You broke it and now you have to fix it.

Although my site is hosted by WordPress.com and I don’t have any plugins, this exact same thing has been happening to me as well for the past week. My site is https://historicipswich.org. In the editor, random images are displayed as centered thumbnails, even though they appear normal when looking at the site. I can make them correct in editor by clicking on center and then center again, but if I edit the page again, the same thing happens. It’s not always the same images that this happens to. I’ve tried different computers, different browsers, and on my two other WordPress.com sites and the same problem happens no matter what I do. I’m using Windows 11. On the WordPress.com forum there were a couple of other people who said this has been happening to them this week. I’m surprised that more people aren’t reporting this.

When I re-edit any page I get the same tiny images.

Hi @moviedebuts I am sorry about the experience you have been having, I can understand how frustrating it can be. However, if I check my site which is currently using a Twenty Twenty Three theme and currently only has Gutenberg enabled I don’t get the same experience you are having. The images are displayed as expected in the editor.
That’s why I was suggesting changing your theme and disabling plugins to see if this is a conflict with other resources you have on your site. \

@gordonharris2 have you reached out to WordPress.com support for this issue, you can reach them on the link below:

Thanks Thelmachido. WordPress support is now aware of the problem, and it seems to be a glitch in the code. He gave me an easy workaround while they work on the problem. Simply open edit on the page, then click on code editor, then click back on visual editor and everything will look normal. This won’t fix the problem, but it makes it possible to edit the page in the visual editor with just those two quick clicks.

The latest update didn’t fix this problem. We need to get this fixed!

Hi @moviedebuts sorry for the delay in response, I am still not able to replicate the issue but I do understand that there are a number of folks experiencing this. There is a GitHub issue that is open concerning what is described here:

    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/48295

You can follow the conversation to see what the developers say or suggest. Please feel free to add your experience there as well, that would be very helpful.

    @thelmachido,

You need to take ownership of this problem. Discussions in GitHub have no meaning to me. Some of us have already reported the problem, and now your programmers need to figure out what they broke and fix it. Thanks.

Hi @moviedebuts WordPress is an open-source project no one owns this software, same goes for some of the resources used like the Gutenberg plugin. This plugin isn’t owned by any individual and any development or fixes are done by contributors.

When something stops working a report is made on GitHub and anyone can work on a PR to fix the issue.
