• Ive been away from my site since last year (about 5 months to be exact) . I just logged in and went to add more images to my library. At first it told me that it couldnt write the file to a folder labelled ‘content/2015/02’ ..so i checked in my site folders and sure enough it hadnt created a folder yet though i have it set to automatically put images in folders based on month.

So i created this folder just to see if it would work. It didnt. The exact error i get now is :
“The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2015/02.”

Is there a reason why the images wont upload anymore? Did a server setting change somewhere? I dont think i changed any permissions since the last time i was editing stuff.
    Thanks

  • Hey,

I would say the permissions on the server did change at some point.

Normally WordPress would create the directory automatically for you, I think the fact that it couldn’t indicates that it has lost the permissions to do so.

Maybe FTP back in and do a check…

ok ill give that a check. I tried to put files directly onto the FTP server in a folder for media- that worked. But when i went to check in my wordpress library, it wasnt there.

Im getting an error for updating WP version. It says that my current version is up to date, but then there is a persistent box that appears that says
“An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”

I tried reinstalling the current version, but all it does is give me a blank screen after i put in my ftp credentials.

i dont know if this has anything to do with the fact that the ftp permissions dont work anymore, but im not sure how to get rid of this alert thing either.

so i have confirmed its on the WP side. I can upload files to my ftp using my username & password.
But WP for some reason wont move /write the files from within WP’s media library uploader.
Im not sure what the deal is.

Ok so after i try changing the permissions on wp-content folder via the ftp (tried 777 and several others) i get this error

500 ‘SITE CHMOD 400 /wp-content’: command not understood. Please contact your web hosting service provider for assistance.

not sure why it wont override the permissions

You must have windows web hosting in that case. Those commands won’t work.

You will need to contact web hosting support to sort the permissions…
