• I started creating my static WordPress site (not a blog) 3+ weeks ago using wp 4.4.2. The site has a page that displays 3 images that are in my media library.
Now that I’ve returned to resume work on my site, I can no longer see the images on that page when viewing the site, neither when accessing the site directly from a browser nor when I switch from editing the page to viewing within WordPress. Where the images used to be, I now see only the title of the image. I can still see the images in the media library and they still appear correctly on the page when it is being edited.

I have not changed the version of WordPress nor have I upgraded plugins.
I’ve seen several old posts about disappearing images but the answers refer to WordPress settings that I’m not seeing in 4.4.2.

  • May be .htaccess changed your permalink settings, on your cPanel’s file manager go to wp-contents > uploads > .htaccess there can be some codes after #End WordPress, please delete those codes which is bellow on #End WordPress. Basic .htaccess should be like this.

I do not have an .htaccess file at wp-content / uploads.
I have .htaccess in four other locations. Which of these would be the right one to edit?
    / public_html /.htaccess

    / public_html / wp-content / plugins / akismet / .htaccess

    / public_html / wp-content / plugins / htaccess-site=access-control / class.htaccess.php

    / public_html / wp-admin / .htaccess

I added an .htaccess file to /public_html/wp-content/uploads.
It contained the text exactly as shown at the Basic .htaccess link above
but my images are still not appearing when I view the page outside of
    the editor.
