    Hey WordPress users,

Ive been running a tech blog at https://technopsisblog.com for quite a while now.
Yeasterday I updated a plugin and run the cloudflare optimizer and today I found that my images stopped working. Only one of the images added to a post remains working, others are not. In my FTP everything seems to be in order. The permissions seem alright and everything is in its proper place.
In the media library in the admin panel everything seems to be working as well, and when I link to the file URL my library says the images are located they still work.

On my dutch counterpart – pretty much identical in every way except for being in dutch and on a seperate WP installation I did exactly the same yesterday and that one keeps being operational.

It can be found here: https://nl.technopsisblog.com

I have no idea what to do – have been trying to figure out why this happened for a while now, but so far no luck.

Hope you guys can help me out!
    Thanks!

  • Have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or your hosting site’s file manager. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

This is the normal debug procedure.

Yes I have, but just to make sure I did it again just now and found out a bit of interesting information:
The problem is only present with the featured images of posts. Within the post editor, the featured image is displayed and seems to be fine. On the post-page itself, on the homepage and in the homepage slider however the featured images of the posts are showing up as media missing/access denied. When i copy the URL in a post of the featured image and past that on a seperate tab I get access denied.
    For example:
    https://technopsisblog.com/wp-content/themes/Theme-728-Free/thumb.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Ftechnopsisblog.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F08%2Fmi-two2-banner.jpg&h=229&w=638&zc=1&q=100&a=t

The main blog can be found here: https://technopsisblog.com

In addition, some of the featured images appear seemingly at random – and this changes from time to time which featured images are shown. Very frustrating!

Anyone has any clue what might cause this?

My advice would be to contact your hosting provider regarding the ‘thumb.php’ file. There are various (good) security reasons why they might have disabled it. Your hosts are the best source of information here.

    Thanks so much, mate!
I started looking at my thumbs.php file in the theme-folder and found out it had some very strange permissions. Changed them back to 755 and now everything is in working order again. Thanks for the help!
