Images Showing in Excerpt

I just installed the Advanced Excerpt Plugin. I got it setup, but when I put an image at the very beginning of the post, it is shown in the excerpt – even if I don’t set it as a featured image. If I set it as a featured image, it is shown twice. I’m not sure how to fix this? I tried adding a caption to the images, but that didn’t work either.
