Hmmm, do you have a regenerate thumbnails plugin? Does this happen if you disable all other plugins? Is there a plugin that has anything to do with thumbnail functionality? (I can take a look at it)

I do have regenerate thumbnails installed, but I haven’t run it. It’s diffivukt to test because it seems to happen at random times. An image will be fine, then it will revert. It’s actually happened to me with other site in the past, but not like it has on this one. I thought old versions were caching, but I stopped caching images at all.

    Now it’s broadwayworkshop.com …. We’re live.

If you look at the homepage, you’ll see an “enrolling now” area with am awkwardly cropped NBC logo. This is one that KEEPS reverting. I’ve cropped it easily a dozen times.

    Any help is appreciated.

If you’re using the jetpack plugin disable the “photon” add in. This is a caching plugin, it lets you see that you changed the thumbnail, but then when wordpress displays your images it pulls them from the wordpress servers instead of yours.

    It is already disabled.

If you disable the regenerate plugin, does that make any difference?

If you look at the timestamp on the images, can you find when the file changed and maybe trace that to some action?

There is a setting (Settings → Post Thumbnail Editor) for a cache busting option. If you enable this, then crop your image, the filename should completely change from anything that wordpress (or any other plugins) use. If it changes again, check to see what the filename is.

I was having this same problem—tried emptying my caches and the old crops were still showing on my pages with thumbnails. I also have the regenerate thumbnails plugin and Jetpack. What fixed it for me was deactivating Jetpack’s “photon” add-in as you suggested!
