Images randomly removed
-
Over the past few weeks I’m discovering images in the Uploads folder mysteriously go missing without any explanation. I’m concerned WP-Optimize might be to blame.
WP-Optimize Premium 2.2.2
First and most important, I have never used (and have no intention of using) the Images removal function provided with WP-Optimize.
My problem is something different, but seems related.
I frequently run checks for broken links and this is how I’ve discovered the missing image files. A few weeks ago, the link checker was reporting no missing files whatsoever – I’m very careful about this.
And I have complete backups (made with UpdraftPlus Premium) that do contain the images in question. These backups were made from the same server, WordPress installation etc. so I know they were actually on the server in the recent past.
Now, I’m getting broken link reports for missing images. And sure enough, when I look in the affected uploads folder using FTP, the images are nowhere to be found. Vanished. Comparing my backups to the current directories on the site clearly shows the files have disappeared with no apparent explanation.
The missing images are all the original, full size uploads (not other image sizes created by the media library). In all cases these are images that were actually attached to posts, which is why the link checker can report them missing. And the missing image files are completely random – there are various files missing in different directories throughout the Uploads folder.
I’ve checked with the hosting company and they see no activity whatsoever that indicates the files being moved or deleted by any method. So they state it must be a plugin or theme running a script that is removing them (activity from which is not logged).
This problem is very new and has only started happening, coincidentally, since I’ve upgraded to the latest versions of WP-Optimize and purchased the Premium package.
I can think of no other way this could be happening. If this is, in fact, a bug within WP-Optimize it’s a huge one with major implications. Whatever it is, it’s already been causing me a lot of trouble.
Please advise ASAP. Thanks!
