The Masonry widget uses your featured images. So you need to make sure you’ve selected a featured image for each post.

But tell me, how you was possible to change the size and position for the Feature picture in your demo post?

I have at the moment only an workaround, disable the feature image in the CSS (display:none;), and attache an image widget by PB to the post, to get the Image small.

So I have more control over the whole added image in the posts, and the Masonry widget also works proper

You can try the format of the post you want to put in the Masonry widget. This determine where the picture will be shown.
Also you can try the Columns at the right bottom of the Post editing page. This will help you with the size of the image.
