Hello, Suddenly (since yesterday it was not doing this) a site I am working on is having this problem. As I prefer the classic editor, any image I add to a post or page shows up in the visual editor, but as soon as I click publish or update the image in the editor changes to a white box with a border around it. The page publishes with the image and the html appears correct. However the visual editor is not showing the images as it always has. Tried to troubleshoot with the health and troubleshooting plugin (found no problems and no theme problems), disabling plugins, updating all plugins, etc and all. Even tried reverting to an older PHP at Siteground’s suggestion. That didn’t help so they reinstalled the latest PHP back again. They are stumped. Any ideas on a fix would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi @designerheather,
please head over General Settings. There might be a colon after the URL in the WordPress Address field and the Site Address field. If it’s so, just remove it and save.

No colon on either and certainly shouldn’t have I know. Funny thing is since I posted this question the images have suddenly reappeared in the visual editor. Any ideas from a moderator if that may have happened for any particular reason or if it was a global glitch today?

Well, despite the fact i know my answer was quite odd, it indeed was the solution to a topic really similar to what you’re experiencing (https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-white-text-and-missing-buttons-in-wordpress-visual-editor/comment-page-1/#comment-172036))

Anyway, when this issue reoccurs, please activate the debug panel by cliccking F12 or right-clicking and selecting “inspect”. Then head to the “Console” tab and take note of what’s happening there.

Glad you resolve it though ??

I thank you Luca, but I prefer to hear form a moderator who works with these things for this very purpose. That link you shared wasn’t exactly my problem, but I appreciate your effort to help.

I am a developer and already tried the inspect among many other things and nothing worked. Inspect doesn’t work well within the visual editor anyway, unfortunately.

Any moderators aware of why this might have happened today?

There is no reason for a moderator to be involved here. We’re all volunteers here.

    Dear @designerheather,
you should not inspect the visual editor, instead open the dev panel (on chrome or firefox) and head to the “console” tab in order to see if there’s some js error that might prevent your images to show up in the v.editor.
Did you come up with some errors or is the console tab completely clear?
Also, please consider that there is no “global issue” on a particular day because there isn’t any wordpress global network where a problem might potentially replicate on all the private wp installations (unless you’re on the wordpress.com service)

However, as you wish. I hope some Op is willing to assist you with this ??
Hope you can resolve this soon!

We are unaware of any specific issues like this, or why it would go away by itself.

My first thought would be some kind of updates to your ad-blocker, if you have one. Sometimes they overblock. Maybe they created the problem then fixed it today.

Thank you Samuel, @otto42 . Someone else might think a moderator isn’t needed to be involved, however my exact question wasn’t being addressed or understood, and I simply stated that I prefer a moderator. And you did in fact understand it exactly and addressed it, so thank you for that and for your kindness. I don’t have an adblocker installed on a site, and Siteground techs really are excellent at what they and could find no problem whatsoever on the site. My client who lives in another state was having the same exact problem, and neither of us have adblockers on our computers that I am aware of – I do on my iPhone, but not my Mac. So must have just been a weird glitch. Thanks again!

@designerheather Thank you, however, please understand that everybody here is a volunteer, including the mods. This is a volunteer forum, so nobody’s opinions or advice should be discounted. We’re all pretty good at some things.

@otto42 – I still prefer a moderator. The first answer I received truthfully had nothing to do with the problem I was having – it had to do with white text and missing buttons, neither of which was a problem I was having.

@designerheather Yes, well, these are still volunteer forums. Don’t ask for moderators again, or discount other people’s advice like that again. Moderators have better things to do, and being rude to others isn’t acceptable.

    (@designerheather)

@otto42 Sam, you are completely way off base here. I’m not being rude. In fact read again, I thanked the first commentator, even checked for that colon before I read that link he left. You have grossly misrepresented my intentions. That, kind sir, is what is unacceptable. I’m merely saying when a person says they’d prefer a moderator (which I was unaware were all volunteer and not actual WP emoloyees before this conversation, knowledge that tells me I’d prefer another specific forum), that should be taken as that petson’s preference, not a slight. I am merely a participant too, and even should I know an answer I would never think to answer other participants here out of respect for the moderators. No worries though, if you had a delete account method as many have asked, I’d gladly delete at this very moment. There is certainly no need for me to come here to be misunderstood and berated. There are kinder forums. As I mentioned above, thank you @lucagrandicelli for trying. Sure wish it had been that easy answer, but alas it cured itself for me and my client in another state. Good day. No more need to reply. In fact, if you do have a method to delete that I can’t find, I ask that you do so at this time.
