    Hi all

If I upload an image via wordpress, it won’t display. If I navigate to that image on the server I get a Forbidden 403 message.

If I upload a similar image to the same location via FTP I can navigate to the image with the browser and see it, but it won’t display in the media gallery to be inserted into the blog.

See the image test posts at:

Several things may have caused this problem. Firstly, do you have any plugins which are running which could affect the upload directory. Secondly navigate to your uploads folder using ftp and see if there are any php or .htaccess files in that directory.

    Hi Tomontoast

I have wp-adserve installed, storing banner ads in a folder in the same directory as the wp files and folders.

There are no php or .htaccess files in the upload folder (although I don’t see .htaccess using WS_FTP LE. I can see them using my laptop with Linux installed).

Checked permissions on the server and that shouldn’t be causing this issue. Any other suggestions, please?

Could this problem be anything to do with me forgetting to add Authentication Unique Keys to the “config” file at installation?

Did martynmoore find a solution. I have exactly the same problem described in the first post of this thread.
Don’t think my plugins are the problem – same ones on other wordpress sites don’t give this headache.
And there are no php or htaccess files (that I can see) anywhere in the upload folder.

    Please help if ye can?

    Thanks

Aww, 4 months and no reply. I am still struggling with this. I got my hosting company somehow to fix it last month, but it seems like when wordpress creates a new folder for a new month in the upload folder, eg this november’s folder: uploads/2009/11 I have noticed that the permission setting are different. Trying to change them does not seem to help as they seem to revert back immediately.

I still don’t know if it’s a wordpress or hosting problem.

    Anyone? Any ideas? Please?
