• I moved to wp.org from wp.com this monday. But my images are all broken. The images are in media library thought. Not sure what went wrong. Should I change any setting?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Could you share the address of your site, or to a page on your site with a broken media link and we’ll have a look at it with you.

Ahhh yes, I see the issue you are having.

I’m going to need a little bit more information to find the best approach here if you don’t mind.

When you moved the site, how did you move your content over, did you use the import/export tool found in the left hand menu of WordPress?

If you did import and export it using this tool, did you also check the box asking if you wanted to transfer your media files?

    Hi Marius,

Thanks and this is what happened.
I moved my content using the import and export tool.
While importing first time I didnt receive any success message.
So I tried again and then got error telling few of images are already existing. And when I tried checking my pages all the images were there.

Then I activated Jetpack’s photon. I don’t know if it changed something or not. Friends were mentioning that they couldn’t find the images. But I was able to see the images. I cleared my cache and tried and still the images were there.

Then I unchecked and checked the Media setting property arrange my media files in date based folder.

I don’t know that screwed up something or not. Now I missing of the media files.

    Sorry if its confusing.
    Thanks

    Hi,

It sounds like you’ve just not updated the links in your posts etc after moving your site.

If you disable the jetpack features relating to images and such for a moment, does your images return and become visible again?

Also if you go to the Media page on the side menu now, and click on one of the images, the sidebar should show a link to the image, could you share this link with us so we can determine how the media elements are set up for your new site?

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

The problem is not related to Jetpack, but as Clorith mentioned, it appears that some of your image links were not updated when you switched to the self-hosted version of WordPress.

You then proceeded to make your old WordPress.com blog private, so no one but you can see the images hosted on that site right now.

The immediate solution would be to make your WordPress.com site public again. You can do so by going to Settings > Reading in your WordPress.com dashboard.

On the long term, I would suggest the following:

    1. Check both your old WordPress.com Media Library, and the new self-hosted site’s Media Library, and make sure all images were transferred properly.
    2. Use a plugin like this one to search for all instances of https://vidhyashomecooking.files.wordpress.com, and replace them with the new path to your images on your self-hosted site.

    I hope this helps!
