    Hi there,

I have to convert 800 photos to Webp format for a client. I purchased the pro version of your plugin. Now I only see the option for a bulk optimization, but I actually want to compress per photo because I’m afraid otherwise things will go wrong and the server won’t be able to handle it. I tested this on a staging website and got a 504 Gateway Timeout.

Is it possible to compress per photo? When I look in the media library I see Converter for Media, but no compression options.

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Kind regards,

    Lisa Greuter

    Hi @lisamaureen,

    Thank you for your message.

I tested this on a staging website and got a 504 Gateway Timeout.

In what situation do you get this error?

When I look in the media library I see Converter for Media, but no compression options.

Can you send me a screenshot, please?

    Best,
    Mateusz

    Hi Mateusz,

Thanks for your quick reply! In bold my answers to your questions:

This was yesterday when I started the bulk optimization. At first it looked like it was successful (I saw 100% so it was completed). Then I noticed the photos weren’t loading. I then changed the ‘Loading method for images’ in ‘Advanced Settings’ from Bypass Nginx to Pass Thru and then WordPress stopped working. It took a long time for everything to load and eventually nothing would load at all and I got that 504. Shouldn’t I have done this?

I just uploaded the first photo. This photo does have compression options. But what I’m interested in is (in the case of my client) compressing the 800 photos that have already been uploaded.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thank you.

What I forgot to mention is that the sample staging website I sent is a different website than my client’s website. Because we don’t want to make any mistakes, my colleague has made a copy of this website. The website on which those 800 photos will ultimately be compressed is https://www.spaarnelanden.nl

Thank you for your answer @lisamaureen!

Please activate the default mode via .htaccess. The reports we receive very often do not concern a problem with the plugin operation, but problems with understanding how the plugin works. Below I have attached the tutorial describing how to test the plugin:

I want to see what might have gone wrong. Could you send me a screenshot of the Help Center tab in the plugin’s settings to my e-mail address: hello(at)mattplugins.com? I will check it because in this tab I have information about the status of your website.

    Hi,

I’m going to ask my colleague if he can contact the hosting to make .htaccess/Nginx available then. We preferred not to take this step, but if there is no other option we will do so. As for the link you send: https://mattplugins.com/docs/how-to-test-converter-for-media-plugin I went through these steps. This works well (see screenshot).

I will send a screenshot of the Help Center tab in the plugin’s settings to your e-mail address: [email protected]

    Thank you.

@lisamaureen I asked you to activate the default mode via .htaccess. You always have Pass Thru mode active on your website. Please activate the mode via .htaccess and do not change anything.

    Hi Mateusz,

My colleague deleted the staging website. He has received a message from hosting that they are going to enable .htaccess/Nginx on their side. I’m not allowed to do anything until then.

The only question left for me is whether you can compress photos individually or whether it is only possible in bulk? Do you know this?

@lisamaureen In the Media Library you can optimize selected images individually.
