• Hi there,

I am unable to get facebook images to load via the ik_fb_gallery shortcode.

With [ik_fb_gallery id="628409793897570"], it either does not load at all, or gives the error code: ik fb: Unable to load photos

    With [ik_fb_feed id="255856407819579" use_thumb="1" hide_feed_images="0" show_like_button="0" show_profile_picture="0" show_page_title="0" show_posted_by="0" show_date="0" use_human_timing="0"], I am able to load the text feed, but also with no images at all.

I have unchecked the hide images options, and my plugin status shows that everything is working properly. I used an app id and secret key from my personal account, and am working on a page where I am an administrator.

May I check if the images loaded via the gallery shortcode must come only from your own page album, or can come from any page’s album? I would like to also load photos from a client’s facebook page. Please do correct me if my understanding is wrong.

    Thanks very much!

    Hey there!

Can you let me know how you retrieved that Gallery ID?

One possibility is that is the incorrect ID – they aren’t immediately obvious! That would be an easy answer, at least ??

    Hi,

Thanks very much for following up!
I went to the album at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.628409793897570.1073741827.255856407819579&type=3

and copied 628409793897570 as the Gallery ID.

However, even for the regular feed, I am also unable to get images to load (but the text loads)

    Hey cwoco!

I’ve had some trouble in the past with images loading, if the App ID and Secret Key aren’t associated with a Facebook App that is setup properly.

Tell me (bear with me, I’m troubleshooting more than just your issue!) – what process did you follow to acquire your App ID and Secret Key?

    Best,
    Richard

Hi Richard great plugin. I am chiming in because my situation is the same.

I am creating websites for our school system in WP Multi. I created a base site which is here:

https://www2.columbus.k12.nc.us/cges/ – as you can see the plugin works great.

I have copied all of the other sites (through duplication plugin)

So as far as the IK Plugin goes, the only changes are the facebook name and the shortcode. I have kept the keys the same. This worked fine for a few sites but the last few sites are now refusing to show images:

https://www2.columbus.k12.nc.us/haes/ even though the original site still works.

I have tried about all I know to do including generating new keys. Any thoughts?

    Hey there!

We are looking into the App ID and Secret Key process – it sounds like, from a few different reports, newly generated keys aren’t acting quite as desired (presenting issues such as the photos not loading) – keys that were generated before this problem came about aren’t causing an issue.

Can you let me know what process you are following to generate new keys?

    Richard

    Hi,

Sorry for the slight lag in replying. To generate the new key I:
    1) Chose to use Facebook as the page I wanted to draw the feed/images from
    2) Navigated to developers.facebook.com
    3) Was instructed that I had to sign in using my personal account and not as the page
    4) Signed in
    5) Clicked on “My Apps” -> “Add new app” -> “website” -> “Skip and create App ID”
    6) Filled in random display name, left namespace blank (optional), “No” to “is this a test version of another app”, “Apps for pages” category
    7) “Create App ID”
    8) Copy ID, clicked show on secret key and entered password again to show.

Hope that helps with solving the issue! My feed looks like the other user’s second feed (the one with the problem). Thanks for investigating the problem!

Hi Richard. i pretty much followed exactly what your video said to do. And it worked great on the first 5 or 6 that I did. Just new ones today. I wonder if a possible issue is that I am reusing the same key (I own all the pages under a business account)

This may or may not help, but I create a direct duplicate of a working page, only changing the facebook name and shortcode.

    Here is page working properly:
    https://www2.columbus.k12.nc.us/cges/

Here is what it is doing now:
    https://www2.columbus.k12.nc.us/hms

The pictures are back but no header. These sites are copies of one another except for colors and images.

Here is the shortcode I am using for both pages.

    [ik_fb_feed id=”ccshms” use_thumb=”0″ feed_image_width=”600″ feed_image_height=”1200″ hide_feed_images=”0″ show_like_button=”1″ show_profile_picture=”1″ show_page_title=”1″ show_posted_by=”0″ show_date=”0″ use_human_timing=”0″]

    Thanks for looking at this…..

By the way I am modyfying with CSS which is why you see the solid lines.

Hi Richard. Mine is working as expected this morning.

It’s still not working for me. I’ve tried creating new App ID’s and secret keys, but still does not work.

    Hi Richard,

I still have no luck in getting the images to load. I have tried adding my website URL to App->Settings -> Platform, but this did not help.

It also seems to vary in terms of results – sometimes I get the Unable to Load Photos message, and sometimes I simply get nothing shown on the page at all.

    Hey cwoco!

Thanks for letting me know – we know the Graph API to be finicky and sometimes slow to respond (which can lead to timeouts and therefore no data being loaded.) However, the plugin is supposed to cache the previous successful request so that you don’t end up with the nothing shown issue.

This is all good feedback to receive! Thanks for keeping the info coming.

    Best,
    Richard

Hello! I am also having this problem. There is a list of posts but no images, and no links to the facebook.com page for each post. Is this how the app is supposed to work?

    Here’s the shortcode I’m using:
    [ik_fb_feed id=”renanbanjos” use_thumb=”0″ feed_image_width=”600″ feed_image_height=”1200″ hide_feed_images=”0″ hide_feed_images=”0″ show_like_button=”1″ show_profile_picture=”1″ show_page_title=”1″ show_posted_by=”0″ show_date=”1″ use_human_timing=”0″]

And here’s how the page looks – we want it to show images and have links to the facebook.com page:
    https://www.renanbanjos.com/?page_id=88

    Thank you!
    Candice

I just installed the plugin and like others, the images are not showing up. Text is there but, no images. I followed the video instructions and it pulls in the text from the posts on Facebook but again, no images.

    Hello!

These issues are almost always related to either:

    1) App ID and Secret Key setup incomplete (still in sandbox mode or the process just not finished),
    2) App ID and Secret Key being rate-limited (shouldn’t happen for a first-time user)
    3) Facebook Graph API being slow to respond (images generate additional requests, which can mean a lot of requests, and sometimes Facebook or your Webhost will time out)

The issue that then follows is that the bad data (ie, the data without images) is cached and not reloaded until a new post is made to facebook and the cache timer expires (about 15 minutes.)

We are currently working on a major under-the-hood update that should resolve all these issues, as we will be loading things differently. In the meantime, the best advice I can give is to try toggling the various options to be sure you haven’t accidentally hidden any images, or wait a little while and then try again to be sure it isn’t a Graph API/Caching issue.

Once the new update is released and we have verified this issue is gone, we will update this thread and mark the topic resolved.

    All the best,
    Richard
