I recently noticed that most of my blog posts don’t include the featured image next to the listing on Google search results (though a few do). The blog posts are being indexed correctly, its just the images that are missing. When I do a live test on Google it says it can see the image but it hasn’t been indexed. I have requested indexing for a few though it’s hard to see if its working (I know it may take a while for all of them to show up.) Some of these blog posts are years old, so it’s not like they, or the images, are new to Google.

I can’t figure out why the image isn’t being indexed when the page is. Is there a setting I need to change somewhere? I supposed I could go through and manually request indexing for all the images on my website, but I’m hoping maybe there’s a simpler solution. Thanks!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @rebeccaolson

Thanks for using Yoast SEO plugin. We understand that the featured image which you have set for the blog post is not showing on the Google search results.

Upon checking your website and blog posts, the Yoast SEO plugin correctly outputs “primaryImageofPage” property in the page’s schema data. If you set a featured image on that page, it is the same on your Google Preview.

However, please take note that it’s entirely up to Google to decide what to show in the search results, and whether to show your image or not. Apart from the schema markup for the primary image, there are other factors (i.e. authority, context, etc.) that Google may take into account to decide whether or not to display an image next to your pages, so even if you have the proper markup (with which the Yoast SEO plugin helps with), it’s not a given that it will output the image you want in the search result, as it will still be up to Google. Due to this being handled on Google’s end, there is little you can do to force Google to display your preferred image.

We hope this helps clarify things.

This does clarify – thank you! I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t making some sort of error. I’ll leave it up to the Google Gods and stop worrying about it. Thanks again.
