I have had issues with incorporating images into my Web Stories for about two weeks. I failed to send this ticket sooner, but I just updated all my plugins in the hopes this issue would be fixed but unfortunately it is not.

I’ve attached a screenshot to showcase that the image doesn’t display for some reason? And I’m no longer able to replace images by pulling a new image over the existing. It just shows an empty image.

I know I’ve had specific issues due to the coding of my site, so not sure if this is specific to my blog. I can attach images or send video once I submit this ticket, so let me know what you need to look through the issue a bit more.

    Hi Luckyna,

The Chloe Digital team did some deep diving into the issue too, and sent the following information:

    Hi Adaleta,

We have investigated the issue and found that the issue is related to CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) Server Configuration. This prevents media from being loaded properly. This is a known issue according to the plugin author.

    Please check this screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/feZsPRi4

You can learn more about this issue by visiting the following link from the Google Web Stories plugin: https://wp.stories.google/docs/troubleshooting/common-issues/.

We tried implementing the fix suggestion but for some reason, it did not fix the issue.

We are continuing our investigation and we will keep you posted.

    Kindest,

The Chloe Digital team figured out the issue. They specified the following:

We have fixed the issue of the image not loading in Web Stories. We found that the image URL addresses being served inside the story builder are insecure URLs. Your website's address is using HTTPS and can only make requests to HTTPS for security reasons, this is why the images are getting blocked.

    Please check this screenshot: https://gfx.cx/images/2022/11/02/OXUGs.png

We installed a Really Simple SSL plugin to force all non-HTTPS URLs to redirect to HTTPS. This fixed the issue. Here's a screenshot showing you that the images are now loading.

Is this something any of the other Web Story participants have experienced with the http versus https situation?

@adaatude Correct. Stories will remain invalid AMP as long as they contain insecure (non-HTTPS) media. We highly recommend setting up HTTPS in order to be able to access all features in the story editor and the Web Stories format itself.

The interesting thing is that I’ve had everything under an SSL certificate and HTTPS for years, so the fact that the images were being uploaded as HTTP is very odd. I’m not quite sure why that was happening and we haven’t gotten to that piece, but I’m glad we figured out what the issue itself was.

    Thanks for your communication!

@adaatude Glad as well. Please feel free to reach out with any other questions or issues. Thanks!
