images not displayed in email
-
NO IMAGES, LOGOS OR GRAPHICS ARE DISPLAYED in email.
Using MailPoet 2.6.16. with PHP Mail on GoDaddy. Mail client is Outlook 2010 on Windows7. Image loading is NOT blocked in Trust Center.
Missing image link says “The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted.” The image link leads to a blank page on my site. Images are visible when viewing the email in a browser and the image link points to the /wp-content/uploads/wysija/themes folder. Folder permission is 775.
This has happened over several newsletters and makes MailPoet USELESS.
Now what?
-
I have the same problem.
The images show up fine in the Mailpoet “second step” compose page, and also when viewing the newsletter in my browser, but nothing (image, divider, social media) shows up in the actual test email. I followed the directions to change the permission for the themes folder to 0775, uninstalled and reinstalled mailpoet, and still the exact same problem. This is my first experience with the software and I will be moving on soon. Too bad, it looks promising…
@craniosedona
Amazing. I scoured the forums for information on this problem and when I finally posted my question there were 2 others with the same problem in 24 hours.
My experience was identical to yours. I tried all the same solutions without any change. BUT, I have another WP site with the MailPoet plugin and it works perfectly. I am currently looking at three possibilities:- There is a plug-in conflict. Both of my sites do NOT have the same plugins installed.
- There is a conflict with the theme. The site that doesn’t work is using a child theme of Suffusion while the one that does work uses a child theme of Attorney.
- There is a problem with redirection in the .htaccess file. The site that does NOT show the images is redirecting to a different hosting platform (I’m in the process of moving my sites on GoDaddy from shared hosting to cPanel). BUT the links work fine in the browser so it seems unlikely this is the problem.
I’ll let you guys know if I find anything. I really like this plugin and want it to work.
I have worked around in duplicating a previous newsletter that has the same images like dividers and social media widgets, which doesnt work with new newsletters, and it worked.
Maybe you give this a try.I have changed the entire wysija folder permissions to 775, uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin. Still no images or social media icons. Someone, please give us a clue. I could easily become a premium subscriber in the future, if this works as promised.
This is Alice in Wonderland – Curiouser and curiouser!
I successfully migrated my site from shared host to cPanel. The .htaccess file is now the standard WordPress version.
I immediately got some warnings on the MailPoet dashboard screens:Strict Standards: Only variables should be passed by reference in /home/zayda3539/public_html/bshoa/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/non_pope/class.photocrati_installer.php on line 207

If I switch to the TwentyEleven theme the error messages go away (except for the NextGen gallery message). I suspect that this may be due to a difference in the version of PHP being used on the shared host (5.2.17) and the cPanel server (5.4.40). The same problem has been reported with the Suffusion theme and the JetPack plugin. In any case it did not prevent me from using MailPoet (but I would like to get it off the dashboard page).
The wp-content/uploads/wysija/themes folder was 755. I reset it to 775.
I duplicated the newsletter I had sent before and tried several variations
Net results were:
1. The original header and logo images which are in the MailPoet images menu now appear in the email
2. The image in the original post (not uploaded to the MailPoet images menu) now appears. If I delete that image and replace it with an image I uploaded to the MailPoet images menu, the new image does NOT appear.
3. If I add the social icons to the bottom of the newsletter they do NOT appear in the email. But the links work perfectly.
4. Changing to the TwentyEleven theme makes no difference. If the problem is in the wysija images links, then why do the header and logo images work OK? I’m just about out of ideas on this one.
UPDATE on Suffusion error messages: Indeed the error messages were caused by the upgrade to PHP 5.4.40 and cause no problem. There is a fix which can be applied to the Suffusion files:https://dan.langille.org/2013/08/02/wordpress-upgrade-issues/.
It will probably be fixed in the next version of the theme (4.4.8).
Also discovered that DeBug mode was turned on in the Geeky options settings in MailPoet and turned it off. No more error messages. Ignorance is bliss! One more point about the images – If I click on “View this newsletter in your browser” – ALL the images are fine.
WOW a lot of people on this thread ??
Guys, could you please send us the images paths of your newsletters?
You don’t need to copy all the paths. Only 1 or 2 would be perfect.
Hi Guys,
Welcome back from the conference in Spain.
So I did a new test email with the following images:
https://barronsquare.org/wp-content/uploads/BarronSquarelogoGold21.png
https://barronsquare.org/wp-content/uploads/Pool21.jpg
https://barronsquare.org/wp-content/uploads/arround-the-square-300×1241.png
and the wysija pigeon
https://barronsquare.org/wp-content/plugins/wysija-newsletters/img/default-newsletter/newsletter/pigeon.png
and the social icons.
ONLY the pigeon showed up in the email received (in Outlook) ALL of the images showed when I viewed the email in a browser.
If you give me an email address ([email protected]???) I will send a preview copy to you.
MauryHi, thanks for the reply. Is this what you mean by image paths?

I have moved some of the images around a bit, trying to get them to work. It didn’t help at all…
Thank you, Joy
@craniosedona
Joy it looks like you need to change the permissions on your images folder.
When I click on your links I get a 403 ‘Permission Denied’ error.Maury
Thank you Maury. The permissions on the images folder (https://www.craniosedona.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/ and https://www.craniosedona.com/wp-content/uploads/wysija/bookmarks/) were already set to 0775. I set everything I could find to 775 in order to get this plugin working, even though I a not sure that’s a good idea long run in terms of security. Is 775 not the correct permissions?
Joy
Do the individual image files also need to be reset to 775? They were 644. I reset the first two above to see if it makes a difference…
It didn’t. I can’t even get the pigeon to show up, @mauryg!
@craniosedona
Joy, I set the uploads folder with the images and the wysija/themes folder to 775, but the images themselves are 604, so that’s not the problem. Two ideas –
1. Is there a difference when you view in a mail client like Outlook or on webmail compared to viewing the newsletter in a browser?
2. Do you have a .htaccess file in the folder with the images which is meant to prevent people from downloading the image files?
One other thought…
Do you upload the images to the “images” tab in the MailPoet editor or are they in the post you are inserting in the newsletter?
I’m getting a stiff neck from staring at the screen with this problem. I might need a good massage therapist before this is done. ?
