I installed your plugin today (April 13) and ran an image optimization. I looked at the image compression file and read that some of the images were compressed and showed how much size was saved. Other images had 0 compressions but stated they had been compressed.

The list of uncompressed images is the same as before the compression began. I refreshed two times; the list remained the same.

So did my images compress or not?

Also, before I installed your plugin, I had installed Optimole (now uninstalled). I had problems with image compressing with them; they looked at my website. The tech representative emailed me that:

“I can see that you are blocking requests to your website and that’s why images can’t be processed.
“You should whitelist User Agent: Optimole (1.0) so that image can get processed. Once it is done you can clear the cache and the issue should resolve.
“I can’t find where you are blocking access to your images, if it is from a plugin or maybe a CDN layer.”

So, my question is does what Optimole found have anything to do with what I have asked?

  • Hi Sharen,

So did my images compress or not?

If the images showed how much size was saved, then they were compressed.

Other images had 0 compressions but stated they had been compressed

If some images have already been optimized by an other service or software, there might be no extra gain possible, which explains the 0 compression.

Optimole’s answer isn’t relevant in this case, as WP-Optimize doesn’t do any requests to your site, but from it to an external service. And if these were blocked, you would have received an error message.

So it appears that the images are correctly compressed.

The list of uncompressed images is the same as before the compression began. I refreshed two times; the list remained the same.

This on the other hand shouldn’t be the case.

    I refreshed two times

Did you refresh the page, or use the Refresh image list button?

Thank you for your reply. It is very helpful.

I clicked the “Refresh image list” twice.

So if your plugin compressed the images, then no images should be visible until I add new images in a post? That would seem logical. However, I added a photo in a post over the weekend, and it isn’t in the list of uncompressed images.

Hmm, I just looked at the uncompressed images page. At the bottom of the images, there is a button that says, “Mark as already compressed.” Was I supposed to have done that? I didn’t do that.

Also, when the images are being compressed, do I have to sit in front of the computer to stop it from going “to sleep” so that the images continue to be compressed? I didn’t close out the page during compression, but I wondered what would happen if my computer went to sleep during compression.

    Thanks for your help.
