When I enter the URL into the meta box of the Post Editor and click on the ‘Preview’ button, the preview image is correctly displayed.
However, when I update the post and then open the Post Summary Page, the image does not appear.
What appears instead, is the text-based title of the post surrounded by a rectangular border which is a hyperlink back to the actual post.
For reference purposes, I am using a child theme of Virtue v.2.6.6 from Kadence Themes.
The site is currently being hosted locally using MAMP software.
I have documented this issue as best as I could using step-by-step screen captures and uploaded it as a PDF document to the web server hosting my current site.
It can be accessed here for review:

Hopefully this is helpful in resolving this issue.

    Hi,scorpion3367.

First, please install Twenty Sixteen theme and then say me if the plugin worked.

    Hi Marcel,
Yes, it seems to function correctly using the 2016 Theme.
In order to make it work properly however, I did actually have to remove the External Featured Image URL from the meta box because there were identical duplicate images being displayed on both the past page and the post summary page.
(*Note: there is already a reference to the image embedded via the Post Editor’s HTML field).

On the plugin settings you will see a toggle for “Featured Image in Content”. Please disable that and then inform me if the duplicate image issue was solved.

    Hi Marcel,
I believe that setting was disabled by default and I didn’t turn it on so there was nothing to disable.
At any rate, the Theme Developer was able to provide me with a custom php code snippet to insert into the functions.php file that has resolved the issue.
I will continue however to keep your plugin activated as I may have need for it in the future to display external video sources.
Thank you for your time and effort!

Just to complement, the plugin doesn’t work with nonstandard themes. You can see that Twenty Sixteen works fine, but yours doesn’t. By the way, many people ask me to become their themes compatible.

And there are other themes that don’t permit to set a Featured Image before the content of the post, so I have include an option to include the external featured image inside the content, but before any text or images. And it works fine. But of course if your theme already shows the Featured Image and you enable the option, you will see the Featured Image duplicated.

If you want, I can adapt your theme code. The most people pay me at least U$50 for the service. What do you think about it?
