When I post a new blog post, an email goes out to subscribers, but it no longer includes an image, even though it’s in the post’s body. Images are critical content in my blog posts. It does not seem to matter which format I choose, standard or image. And selecting a Featured Image does not work either. I would prefer to solve this without having to install a plugin.

  • Hello Marion,

WordPress itself does not have any feature to automatically send emails to subscribers when you make a new post.

What plugin or external service are you using to do this?

That’s where the problem and solution are likely to be found.

    Hi George,

Wow, I was not aware that WordPress does not automatically send emails out to subscribers when I post something new. For 10 years of posting and having emails sent to subscribers, I always thought it was WP.

So, to be honest, I don’t even know where to start looking.

    Hi Marion,

I just dug a bit deeper into your site.

The “SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG” widget in the right sidebar of your site is from Automattic’s JetPack plugin.

But JetPack is definitely less than 10 years old ??

In addition to JetPack, you’re also using Aweber and LeadPages forms on your website. The LeadPages form is connected to your Aweber account.

Anyway, I’ve subscribed to all the opt-in forms on your website and will let you know what I receive when you make a new post.

And did I say I L-O-V-E your site?

    Hi George,

Thank you so much for going through those steps. You mentioned the SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG widget… Did you subscribe to my blog as well? I ask because I didn’t receive a notice to that affect and once upon a time, I DID receive emails when someone signed up for my blog. And once upon a time, images DID show up in email notifications that went out to subscribers.

Here’s what I’m thinking… in the past year I migrated my free, WordPress.com site to a self-hosted www.remarpro.com site. As you can see, things have changed and I’m not able to track down the problem sources.

I’m glad, by the way, that you enjoy the site!

    Hi Marion,

You mentioned the SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG widget… Did you subscribe to my blog as well? I ask because I didn’t receive a notice to that affect and once upon a time, I DID receive emails when someone signed up for my blog.

Yes, I did. And below are screen grabs of the “Confirm your subscription” and “Confirmed subscription” emails I received from WordPress.com (owners of the JetPack plugin that powers your SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG widget).

It’s a long time I used this JetPack feature… but I don’t recall ever receiving any notification from WordPress.com/JetPack when someone subscribed to receive my blog posts. You can find the list of your website subscribers by logging in to your WordPress.com account (it’s under PEOPLE). Please note that this is entirely different from your newsletter and email marking subscription, which is powered by Aweber.

    Hi George,

Thank you so much for your comments and the screen captures. I used to receive emails when someone began following my blog. No longer. And yes, I understand the difference between AWeber and other sign-ups. My website guru and I are now looking at Mail Optin and Mail Poet as options.

So I’m researching them at this point.

    Hi Marion,

My website guru and I are now looking at Mail Optin and Mail Poet as options.

There’s no need to use a separate tool: Aweber can do this.

All your web guru has to do is give your site’s RSS feed to AWeber, and whenever you publish a new feed, AWeber will send email it to your subscribers (you can create a separate list/group/tag — so only people who have asked for the blog posts will get it).

I need to run off now (mains power going off in 2 minutes), but here is the documentation: https://www.aweber.com/blog-newsletters.htm
