Images multiplying/duplicating in Media Library

  • There are several topics similar to this, but none are the same and I can’t find any help in the answers to them.
    Several images in my library are being duplicated. Some are being resized, but not to multiple sizes. The originals are all 600px and the duplicates are 800px or some 600px. The name is changed to a random string, but each image has the same string followed by a number which increases every duplication. I have a couple of products with this problem and all the rest of the products are fine. They don’t duplicate in the some order, or at any particular time. Some duplicate twice at the same time and some aren’t duplicated in that ‘run’.
    Both products have variations. Weirdly enough to me, all these images were uploaded at the same time. Variations I have uploaded since to the same product do not duplicate.

    It’s not in a blog (as many others were experiencing). I don’t have Smush installed (any longer).

    I have tried removing the images and uploading them again. However, I think when I first uploaded these images they were 800px.

  • Do you have any other CDN plugins which could be optimizing images for you, or media plugins, photo gallery plugins?

    Thanks for the reply.

    I’m not entirely sure what a CDN plugin is. But I resize my images before I upload them and I don’t think there is any plugin doing that. I do have Autoptimize, but I don’t have the image options turned on.

    I’m by no means saying it’s not some plugin doing this because I don’t know enough about WordPress. However, it doesn’t make sense to me that there are only 2 products out of over 600 that have an issue if that is the case because it should be resizing all my product images. Added to that, it’s only certain images within those two products with this issue.

    No problem.

    If you delete the item, and re build it, does the problem reoccur?

    It’s not that simple. My products are integrated with my POS and warehouse management. I deleted it from my webshop to see if that helps.

    Ah yes, I can understand how that. After removing it and re adding, did the problem re occur? Also, I’m going to ask one of my colleagues to look at this for some extra input. We’ll followup.

    I figured it out. They were syncing across to WP from my POS software. Only these few products where I had tried adding images from the POS side rather than through WP.
