images disappear

It seems that one week I fix the images in post, come back a month later and they are gone again. This is not acceptable and it has to be fixed. Some posts I have had to fix several times now.
Gutenberg has been noting but problems and as long as nobody can fix them it makes it frustrating for writers to work.
Another problem is placing images in awkward places which I have to edit manually to allow the flow of a paragraph to be better.
The missing images all have a block but it is MIA with a empty block.
