Images cannot be uploaded using either Uploader

  • I am using Firefox 3.0.19 and have my site on GoDaddy.com. I also have the latest Flash installed (version 10,1,53,64). I tried uploading images using the Flash Uploader, and when that failed, I switched to the Browser Uploader and got a different error.
    I am using high-speed cable so I doubt it’s an issue with the internet connection.

    When I used the Flash uploader and tried to upload an image, all I got was an error message “IO error.”
    When I tried the Browser Uploader, it LOOKED as though the image was successfully uploaded, but no image appeared in the posting window. I had copied the image link, so I tried finding the image file by pasting the image link in the URL field in another browser window and got an error saying that the image did not upload correctly (https://quileutewolfpack.com/newsblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/WolfBoys.jpg).

    I used to be able to easily upload images when I was using Internet Explorer, but for the past month since I switched to Firefox, I have not been able to upload any images. We also recently switched from a Windows server to a Linux.

    As we have a news blog, it is absolutely vital that we be able to upload images. Can you help us please? Why are we no longer able to upload images correctly?

  • Have you checked the uploads path in Settings/Media?

    Thank you for the tip!

    OK so I went into Media in Settings and where it says “Store uploads in this folder”, I see the old path (D:\Hosting\…) from when I used to have a Windows server. The path has changed since I moved to the Linux server. The last time I deleted anything with D: in it, it crashed my application. I’m afraid to delete anything at this point. Is the D: a vital part of the path?

    It worked!! I replaced the old path with the new one and the image is now showing. Thank you so much for the tip!

    I am not too happy about GoDaddy not telling me that the path would change and that I would have to go into all my applications to manually change all the paths…

    Upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1 and this image upload problem, io error, began to occur.

    Went in and changed the file upload path (the one that’s been working just fine until now!)to the default –> wp-content/uploads <— and now everything works just fine.

    Weird. But now it works. At least until the next update.

    I am having the same issue and have scoured the support forums and Internet for a solution. I am able to upload maybe 2% of the time, but the other times it gets stuck on 72 or 75%, then finally just shows an IO Error. I have no luck with either uploader. I have uninstalled Flash, emptied all my temp files, opened permissions on the uploads folder on the server (WordPress 3.0.1 on IIS) all with no luck. Could this be a local machine issue? If so, any suggestions? Having a blog is pretty pointless without being able to upload photos! Thanks!

    Update: the issue appears to be browser/computer independent. I have the same issues on IE/Firefox/Safari and have tried on multiple computers, inside and outside my ISP. By the way, I also have my file upload path set to the default. It looks as though this is an issue on my server, or my PHP installation, does anyone have any tips or things I can check? Any help would be much appreciated!
