    Hello everyone:

I am facing a problem that all of my images are broken all of the sudden for some reason. I am pretty sure i didn’t edit anything in past a few days. There are only like 10 images are still showing in wordpress’s media (but they don’t show on the website as well). I can’t upload an image as well (it says Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2016/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?). I checked my permissions through cyberducks everything is correct. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

  • Messiguo,

It really sounds like your file permissions have changed.

Did you check the numeric value is set to 744 or 755?

    Thank you!

Based on that error message you get (Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2016/09) it sounds like your server may have the wrong date configuration. Especially if you’re site is trying to create or add to a folder dated 2016/09 – (today it should be sending images to a folder 2017/07).

    On your missing images…
I guess the first thing to do is verify that the folders that had your images are still there. The best way to check that is to use FTP or get access to your files through your host’s website.

If you had uploaded them before –
GO to wp-content>uploads and find the images that are missing if they were previously uploaded.

If they were associated with a theme or plugin –
Check your backups to see if the file structure has changed with any of those. Comparing it to your current.

    Keep me posted.

    Thanks for your responses:

I have checked the permission (i tried setting to 744 or 755 even all permissions to all users, but it didn’t work).

I have checked the ftp, all my images are still there, and the structures have not been changed.

Could you please check the source code of your website and see if the URLs are linking to the correct path?
