images aren’t actually being deleted from the ‘uploads’ folder

I’m just curious about this one little thing which I found accidently. I’ve just installed WordPress 2.0.4 on my localhost running Apache 2.0.5.4, MySQL 4.1 and PHP 5.0.4, and here’s the problem: images in the default ‘uploads’ folder aren’t actually deleted when I tried to delete them via the ‘Write Post’ subpanel. The image preview thumbnails no longer shown up in the image browser panel, so does their records in the MySQL table, but when i checked at the ‘uploads’ folder they’re still there, not actually being deleted.

If this a bug or just something wrong with my localhost setting? If there’s anyone had ever overcome this would you please tell me how, because this is definitely going to be a BIG problem to those with SMALL web space ??
