Images appearing with same name and grey broekn thumbnail in Media Gallery

  • After upgrading to WordPress 4.0 and updating a few plugins (hadn’t done this for a while) all the images in the Media Gallery are no longer displaying correctly. All recently uploaded images have the same image name (the name of the last image uploaded) and also don’t display the correct thumbnail (just a grey broken thumbnail). Images that I uploaded months ago do display the correct image name and thumbnail. If I go to edit screen of one of the broken images and copy the direct URL into a browser, then I can see the image is correct. Why can’t I see the images in the Media Gallery?

    Any help on this would be massively appreciated.

  • Has anybody found a solution to this problem, yet? Is it WordPress 4.0 or 4.1 related or theme related?

    One of my sites that uses the Baskerville theme doesn’t have this issue (and runs WP 4.1), but the second site I set up with WordPress (runs WP 4.1) that uses the Spacious theme does. Images uploaded as of 10/12/2014 or later appear broken in the media library list (but they are listed there nonetheless).
