Imagebrowser Carousel with navigation controls

Hello,
I am a semi-novice wordpress developer and I think that NextGen gallery is the best.
What I want to do (and I can’t yet) is that I am trying to get thumbnails in the imagebrowser template. Do you know how can this be done?
Also when I am adding the shortcode [nggallery id=1 template=carousel images=5]
I have been searching the forum for hours but some answers are from 3 years ago and they are using too much javascript whichI would prefer not to and others are using lightbox which I don’t want because I want to post the info rather than use ajax.
