image viewer, no flash and no pop-up window

I’m looking for a way of displaying images on my website.

Either similar to on Simon Watson’s site https://www.simonwatson.com/#/interiors but ideally also with thumbnails

or similar to https://www.fogbank.co.uk

Ideally without flash, so that it works on iphones.

Is this possible? I would prefer that the image viewer doesn’t open in a pop-up window.

Any suggestions?? or is this simply not possible with wordpress?
