Image upload problems

  • My hosts servers have been hacked and we were asked to make sure that we had upgraded to the latest WordPress version, which I did last night. Now, I cannot upload any images to posts. I get the following message:

    The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/library-online.org.uk/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.

    Can anyone help me as I don’t know what to do next?

  • check the permissions of the folders wp-content and uploads are set to 755

    I am also having trouble uploading images, but it just started a couple of days ago. When I select the image and hit the upload button, I receive this message:

    Unable to create directory /wp-content/uploads/2008/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Everything was fine a few days ago and uploading images was not a problem. I have not changed anything with my settings. Can someone help?

    By no means am I a techie- but am baffled why everything worked fine a month ago & now I cannot upload images(same “parent directory” issue as above), nor insert links to update my pages.I have checked this page over the past week & see there have been no updates or solutions offered. are u guys asleep out there? You have set up this system as the only way to communicate with your tech people, but its now working. Not being able to manage our pages is a BIG problem! The only process I was able to accomplish was deleting images, which have now left unfilled holes in my page. Can someone please offer some suggestions as to how to deal with these issues? Thank you

    I still have not been able to get this fixed. I double check to make sure my permissions for the folder are set to 755 and they are so I have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I’ve just started having this problem as well… just stopped uploading one day… any ideas?

    I was creating another instance of a WordPress installation on the same server, and had the exact same problem on the new site. After checking permissions on the /wp-content/ and /uploads/ folders, and finding everything in order, and switching from the Flash to the browser uploader, I was stumped. And this thread provided no help.

    However, by chance, I went to Settings >> Miscellaneous.

    Under that tab, I found this information:
    Miscellaneous Settings
    Uploading Files
    Store uploads in this folder: /home2/xxxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxx/public_html/OLD_INSTALLATION_FOLDER/wp-content/uploads/

    Changing this to the correct wp-content/uploads (as suggested in italics next that settings box) immediately corrected the problem.

    I had the same problem when I tryed to add images to my post (WP2.8.)the picture will not display, using either the flash or browse upload.

    I then found a solution here. just follow instructions to fix images/media upload problem.

    Just make sure that the folder link that you try to upload is written in
    Settings-Miscellaneous tab correctly. When it says only wp-content then it doesnt upload anything. When you type there wp-content/uploads then it uploads correctly.

    Also if you update your wordpress version lately check that you updated from the correct resource. When you install a wp from for example a German site, then you must wait for that sites updates. Do not attempt to update a German (or any other one) language Wp from the original WP site. Coz it causes some problems like not uploading, not updating plugins etc.
