I have three WordPress sites on different domains, all hosted on the same server at Dreamhost Shared Hosting. All are giving the same “HTTP Error” feedback when trying to upload images either to a post or via the Media menu option.

Everything is up to date and the Health Check is happy.

    Focusing on one implementation:

I am unable to say whether this problem arose only after the latest update to 5.2.2 – I have been a lazy blogger for some time and not been posting. I last updated with an image in April. My last post did not use an image.

We have Googled and implemented all the supposed fixes that we can find. The error persists.

It is NOT Theme related, I have swapped themes (and one of the sites is running Nineteen anyway).

It is NOT apparently Plugin related. I have turned off all Plugins (plugins are not wholly common across the three sites) and the error persists.

I have swapped from Chrome to Edge, the error persists.

    Any ideas, please?

One possible clue may be that when switching to using the Browser Uploader interface, the response is a 404 Page. I don’t know.

UPDATE: we have just done a clean 1-click install to an empty domain and tried an image upload. The behaviour is the same – so, server related, I think? Yet nothing is reported in the Dreamhost Forums. We seem to be alone in this, I find nothing current in this forum either.

    We are stumped.

This may be caused by an over-aggressive configuration of your server’s mod_security module. Try asking your hosting provider about it.

You may need to increase the amount of memory. Again, ask your host.

We did not resolve the issue but, annoyingly perhaps, it has gone away.

Glad the issue is gone away ??
